One man has died following a collision on Highway 401 in Etobicoke on Tuesday morning.

The collision occurred in the westbound lanes of the highway near Renforth Drive at around 5:30 a.m.

"(A) vehicle came to a stop and was either broken down or disabled. We are not sure if maybe the driver had a medical episode," OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said Tuesday.

"As the vehicle stopped, another car came from behind, collided into the back of that one."

Police said one victim was transported to hospital, where he died a short time later. He has been identified by police as a 64-year-old Toronto man.

The westbound collector lanes are blocked due to the investigation and Schmidt said there will be "heavy delays" in the area until at least 10 a.m.
