A 22-year-old man facing charges in a triple murder is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, less than 24 hours after three bodies were found in an Etobicoke townhouse.

The victims are two women and one man aged 49 to 76, and they are related to the suspect, homicide squad Det. Sgt. Dean Burks told CP24 reporter Katie Simpson.

The victims' names have not been released yet because police are still trying to notify relatives who live overseas.

The suspect, a man in his 20s, has been charged with three counts of second-degree murder.

Police were called to the townhouse complex on Old Burnhamthorpe Road on Monday around 7 p.m. when a family member returned home and found the bodies of three people who had been involved in “a violent situation,” said Insp. Tim Crone.

Officers flooded the neighbourhood and located a suspect, who was armed with a knife, Crone told CP24 at the scene.

After a brief standoff, the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody without incident, Crone said.

Autopsies are scheduled to confirm the cause of the deaths, but police say the victims suffered blunt force trauma.

Neighbour Dan O’Sullivan, a resident of the neighbourhood near Burnhamthorpe Road and Highway 427 for nearly 20 years, said people were shocked when they learned of the triple homicide.

“I think that this would be the worst thing that ever happened here,” O’Sullivan told CP24 on Tuesday. “This is the calmest little neighbourhood.”

The victims are Toronto's 32nd, 33rd and 34th homicide victims of 2013, police said.

Anyone with information about the triple homicide is asked to call investigators at 416-808-7400 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
