Police are looking to speak with a group of Good Samaritans who helped pull a 22-year-old man out of a deadly car wreck in North York on Sunday, possibly saving his life.

The victim was one of five people travelling in a southbound Acura near Jane Street and Sheppard Avenue at around 3:30 a.m.

Police say the vehicle collided with a Mercedes Benz in the area and continued southbound. The vehicle then lost control, struck another vehicle and hit a light standard, ejecting four out of the five occupants.

A 21-year-old woman, a 19-year-old man and a 23-year-old man were pronounced dead at the scene while two men were rushed to hospital, one in life-threatening condition.

“The Good Samaritans as I understand it offered first aid and got one of the individuals out of the car,” Const. Clint Stibbe told CP24 on Monday morning. “Whether that was the pivotal point in whether or not that person survives is hard to say but in the end they were Good Samaritans in this case and we just want to speak with them and acknowledge what they have done.”

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash and have not even been able to determine who was driving the vehicle at this point or whether drugs or alchol were a factor.

Stibbe, however, told CP24 that all signs point to speed having been played a role.

“There was a piece of a brake rotor or the other side of the street, well away from the collision seat. The brake rotor is buried so far into the car that a lot of pieces had to come off just for it to get out. It just goes to show much damage this car sustained,” he said.

The victims have not yet been identified, though Stibbe told CP24 that next-of-kin have been notified.

The 22-year-old man, meanwhile, remains in critical condition in hospital.

“It is touch and go whether that person will make it out of this,” Stibbe said.
