Police are looking for a suspect in the death of a 60-year-old man who was severely beaten by a group of people in the city's west end Thursday night.

The victim, Richard Pepper, and a friend were walking toward Mabelle Avenue in the Dundas Street and Islington Avenue area around 8:30 p.m. when they were confronted by several males and assaulted, according to Toronto police.

Pepper's friend was able to escape, said police, but Pepper received serious head injuries and lost consciousness.

On Saturday, police issued a written statement to say that Pepper had succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

A male suspect, Jamal Abdinasir Hassan, 22, is wanted for second-degree murder, said police.
