Thousands of people living in the Greater Toronto Area were without power this evening after a Woodbridge transmission station suffered a loss of supply.

At the height of the power outage, 6,000 customers in Vaughan and about 2,500 customers in Peel region were without electricity.

The outage lasted several hours and by 11 p.m., thousands remained without power in Vaughan.

The transmission in question provides power to parts of Malton and Brampton but officials said late Tuesday that other sources were being sought to help restore electricity quickly.
