SHANGHAI, China - Canada's Milos Raonic reached the second round of the Shanghai Masters, beating Australian qualifier Marinko Matosevic 7-6 (4), 6-3 on Tuesday.

The 12th seed from Thornhill, Ont., fired 14 aces past Matosevic and won the match in one hour 28 minutes.

Raonic will face former Grand Slam finalist Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus in the second round.

Raonic is looking to reach the final for a second consecutive tournament. Raonic advanced to the final of the Japan Open last week before falling in three sets to Kei Nishikori. The result moved him up to a career-best 14th in the ATP rankings.

Also Tuesday, eighth-seeded John Isner reached the third round by beating Kevin Anderson of South Africa 7-6 (3), 6-7 (8), 7-6 (7).

Neither player was able to break serve in the match, the first at the tournament to go to three tiebreakers. Isner saved three break points and Anderson saved four.
