The Special Investigations Unit has invoked their mandate after a police cruiser responding to a domestic violence call collided with two other vehicles in Brampton.

The cruiser was travelling southbound on Main Street just north of English Street at around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday when the collision occurred.

The SIU says that the officer and a young woman in a SUV were both taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The woman has since been treated and released but the status of the officer is not immediately clear.

The SIU has assigned three investigators, two forensic investigators and one collision reconstructionist to the case.

“We are asking anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who has video of this incident to contact our lead investigator,” SIU Spokesperson Jason Gennaro told CP24 on Thursday morning.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency called in to investigate whenever police are involved in an incident resulting in death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
