The province’s police watchdog is investigating after officers were involved in an "interaction" with a man at a Brampton home early Sunday morning.

Peel Regional Police were called to a home in the area of Montjoy Crescent and Maitland Street at around 2:20 a.m. for a reported disturbance.

When officers arrived, they had an interaction with a man at the residence.

"Peel Regional Police officers responded to a residence on Montjoy Crescent in Brampton in regards to the behaviour of a 24-year-old man who lived in the home. When officers attempted to apprehend the man, there was an interaction. The man was taken to hospital where he was diagnosed with a serious injury," the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said in a news release issued Sunday.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that is called in to investigate any incident involving police and a member of the public that results in death, serious injury, or an allegation of sexual assault.
