Several buildings in midtown Toronto are going without electricity for part of the day as hydro crews repair equipment that was damaged in a fire.

At about 10 a.m., Toronto Hydro cut power to buildings located between 80 and 130 Eglinton Ave. E.

Initially, Toronto Hydro was planning to turn off the power supply to buildings within a larger area, but employees narrowed the outage field to limit the inconvenience.

Crews were hoping to restore power by 2 p.m.

Toronto Hydro spokeswoman Tanya Bruckmueller said crews are conducting repairs after an overnight fire broke out in an underground cable chamber.
