A motorcyclist is dead after crashing his vehicle on the Gardiner Expressway overnight.

An investigation into the fatality closed down the Gardiner in both directions near the Humber bridge for several hours but the expressway fully reopened to traffic at around 7 a.m.

Traffic Services Staff Sgt.  Brian Bowman said the victim – believed to be a man in his 30s – lost control of his vehicle and hit the centre barrier just after 1 a.m. Friday.

The man was ejected from the motorcycle on impact and landed in the westbound lanes of the highway. He was hit by at least one car and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police' Traffic Services Const. Clint Stibbe said speed was a factor in the crash.
