After nine years without a playoff win, the Toronto Blue Jays kept up the momentum Sunday afternoon, winning Game 2 of the ALDS against the New York Yankees.

Toronto stormed through Game 1 with a 10–1 victory, backed by a relentless offence and solid pitching that silenced the Yankees in their first-ever postseason meeting. It marked the Jays’ first playoff win in nearly a decade and a strong start to the series.

The Yankees, who advanced after edging out the Boston Red Sox in a Wild Card Series earlier this week, sent left-hander Max Fried to start Game 2. The Jays, meanwhile, countered with rookie Trey Yesavage, making just his fourth big-league start of his career.

Game 2 got underway at 4:08 p.m. ET at Rogers Centre.

The series moves to New York for Game 3 on Tuesday, with a potential Game 4 on Wednesday. If it goes the distance, Game 5 would return to Toronto Friday night.

CP24 will have live coverage from today’s press conference, fan arrivals at the Rogers Centre, and score updates throughout the game.

More than 44,000 fans packed the Rogers Centre on Sunday afternoon to take in Game 2 of the ALDS against the New York Yankees and weren’t disappointed as the Toronto Blue Jays won 13-7.

The man rose to his feet to cheer for rookie pitcher Trey Yesavage, who was removed during the 6th after setting a Blue Jays post-season record when he struck out 11 batters in 5 1/3 innings.

The long-time fan cautioned that the Jays should “take noting for granted” as they head in to Game 3 in the Bronx on Tuesday, pointing to 2015 when the team lost two games to Texas and ultimately rebounded.

“So it’s still possible for them to come back. We have to be careful,” he said.

“I think it was good for Vlad and Kirk, not just because they hit home runs. Just ironing out some mechanical things and getting a little bit of rest for guys that have played a lot,” he said.

“Obviously every stadium is different... as an outfielder, you already have nonverbal signals, so everybody kind of has their cues of knowing what I’m trying to say to them, and they know the same thing back,” he said.

“We’ve practiced that since spring, so we’re all set and prepared for that.”
