Bo Bichette seen sitting alone in Mets dugout as team falls to last place

Published:

The Colorado Rockies swept the New York Mets in a doubleheader this past weekend.

After the New York Mets lost their third game in a row on Sunday, infielder Bo Bichette could be seen lingering alone in the home dugout with a forlorn look on his face.

Does Bichette regret signing with the flailing Mets? Does he miss playing with the upbeat Toronto Blue Jays? Only Bo knows.

In Game 7 of the 2025 World Series, Bichette’s three-run home run brought the Blue Jays within spitting distance of their first championship since 1993. After becoming a free agent following the Jays’ stinging World Series defeat, Bichette rejected a one-year US$22-million offer to stay in Toronto, where he played for the first seven seasons of his career.

Bichette ultimately signed a whopping US$126-million three-year contract with the New York Mets, which makes him the sixth highest-paid MLB player in 2026, according to Forbes.

But with nine wins and 19 losses so far this season, the floundering Mets are currently tied for last place in the MLB alongside the Philadelphia Phillies. That’s despite the Mets boasting a league-leading US$352.2-million player payroll on opening day, which nudges the team ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers and is more than five times the lowest-spending team, the Cleveland Guardians.

The Mets dropped both games of a doubleheader against the Colorado Rockies on Sunday to complete a series sweep. According to The Associated Press, many fans in the announced crowd of 38,155 left the stadium after the Rockies took a 3-0 lead in the third inning of the second game. Last year, the Rockies finished dead last in the MLB, with just 43 wins and a staggering 119 losses.

Bichette looked very unhappy as he spent several minutes alone in the dugout following the Mets’ latest loss. His new team’s struggles have clearly been on Bichette’s mind.

“We definitely need to reset,” Bichette reportedly said ahead of the series against the Rockies. “You can’t put too much pressure on yourself. It’s going to take a full team effort, but I definitely know that I need to play better to help this team start winning some games.”

The Toronto Blue Jays are only faring slightly better than the lowly Mets, with just 12 wins and 16 losses so far this year. But with 162 games in a regular season, both teams still have time to turn things around. After all, this time last year the Jays had a nearly identical record with 13 wins and 15 losses. By the end of the 2025 regular season, the Jays were tied for third place in the MLB alongside the New York Yankees.

The New York Mets face the Washington Nationals tonight at home at Citi Field in New York City.
