Rocanville’s Jessica Campbell is leaving the Seattle Kraken as her contract expires to explore other NHL coaching opportunities.

Rocanville’s Jessica Campbell is stepping away from the NHL’s Seattle Kraken, opting to explore other coaching roles within the National Hockey League (NHL).

“As Jessica’s current contract expires, she has expressed her desire to explore other coaching roles across the League and we support her in this process,” said Kraken executive vice-president and general manager Jason Botterill in a release from the team. “Jessica has been an important member of our coaching staff for the past four years, demonstrating deep knowledge, and a unique ability to connect with and develop players.”

“We respect her decision and believe strongly in her as a coach in this league.”

Campbell joined the Kraken as an assistant coach in July 2024, where she made history as the first woman to be hired as a full time coach in the NHL. She originally joined the organization as an assistant coach for the Kraken’s minor league affiliate, the Coachella Valley Firebirds, in 2022.

Prior to her move into coaching, Campbell grew up playing for the Melville Prairie Fire in the Saskatchewan Female U18 AAA Hockey League before going to Cornell University (NCAA) from 2010 to 2014.

She also played for the Canadian Women’s National Team at the World Championships in 2015.
