Argos to call Guelph home again for 2026 season amid FIFA World Cup schedule shift

For a sixth straight season, the Argos are setting up shop at the University of Guelph.

The Toronto Argonauts returned to the University of Guelph for training camp for a sixth straight season, but this year’s stay will be much longer than usual.

The Canadian Football League (CFL) club announced the university will serve as the team’s headquarters from May 1 through Aug. 4 as the 2026 season gets underway during a unique year for Canadian sports venues. With 2026 FIFA World Cup matches being hosted at BMO Field, the Argonauts will begin the regular season with seven straight road games.

Three of those “home” games are scheduled to be played in Saskatchewan, Winnipeg and Hamilton while the team remains based in Guelph.

“I thought it was a good start. As I told the club, we’re going to be easy to please but we’re going to be hard to satisfy,” head coach Mike Miller said. “They accepted the challenge, and they came out here with that type of focus and urgency and they executed. So, [I’m] proud of how we started, but again, tomorrow’s the next day and we’re only as good as the next day.”

“We have great leadership. We got a lot of young guys that have a lot of passion and a lot of energy, a lot of talent as well,” defensive back DaShaun Amos said. “We’re a well-rounded football team that’s going to be disciplined and we’re going to play smart football.”

Amos returned to the team after playing for the Hamilton Tiger Cats last year.

“It’s just been confirmation for me, the three years prior to this [return], was exactly what I said it was, and it was the highlight of my career,” Amos said. “Being able to come back and put the double blue back on, it’s an honour.”

The Argonauts will also host a preseason matchup against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Alumni Stadium on May 29 at 7 p.m. Gates open at 6 p.m.

The team has previously held training camp at the University of Guelph in 2016 and every year since 2021.

“You were able to see guys celebrating each other. Whether it was [the] offense making plays, [the] defense making plays…there was a lot of togetherness out there, so I was really excited to see that,” linebacker Adarius Pickett said. “Let’s get the party started, baby. We back. I’m back. It’s time, right now.”

Tickets for the preseason game are available through the university’s athletics department.
