The only sporting event ticket worth more than a Montreal Canadiens home game in May is a seat at the iconic Madison Square Garden to watch the Knicks.

The ticketing technology company Victory Live analyzed completed sales across the eight markets with teams in the NBA and NHL playoffs.

At a $1,315 average ticket price ($1,816 CAD), Knicks home games lead the pack, with Habs home games coming in at just under a thousand U.S. Dollars: $988 ($1,365 CAD).

Note: none of these prices include ticket fees.

The average ticket price for the other three NHL teams is about a third of the price in Montreal, and NBA fans pay much less:

  • San Antonio Spurs - $633 ($874 CAD)
  • Cleveland Cavaliers - $513 ($708 CAD)
  • Carolina Hurricanes - $342 ($472 CAD)
  • Colorado Avalanche - $337 ($465 CAD)
  • Oklahoma City Thunder - $321 ($443.48)
  • Vegas Golden Nights - $258 ($356 CAD)

For the first four games of the NHL Conference finals, Game 3 between the Habs and Canes is the most expensive ticket with an average price of $1,018 ($1,406 CAD). Game 4 is also over $1K Canadian at $1,322.

Those wanting a cheaper seat could drive or fly the 1,385 kilometres to the Lenovo Center in Raleigh, North Carolina and pick up a ticket to Game 5, but any Canadiens game is premium viewing.

Only the Vegas at Colorado Game 2 ($380 USD) was above the two Montreal at Carolina games to start the series.

Again, the Knicks top the Habs for seats with Game 1 tickets averaging $1,334 ($1,842 CAD) and Game 2 going for $1,291 ($1,783 CAD).

If you’re in the market for “cheap seat” tickets for Monday’s game at the Bell Centre, budget for $450 to start. Some lower-level tickets are above $4,500 on Ticketmaster, as of 4 p.m. on Sunday.

If these tickets seem steep, they are couch cushion change compared to the NFL’s marquee event: The Super Bowl.

According to Victory Live, these are the average ticket prices of the last three Super Bowls:

  • LX, Seahawks v. Patriots (Levi’s Stadium): $8,970 ($12,392 CAD)
  • LIX, Eagles v. Chiefs (Caesars Superdome): $8,699 ($12,018 CAD)

To check out a World Series game between the LA Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays last year would net you a cool $1,623 ($2,242), which, give T-dot some credit, was almost $500 U.S. dollars more than the year prior when the huge market Yankees played the Dodgers: $1,192 ($1,646 CAD).

The average ticket price for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in 2023-2024 was $1,652 ($2,282 CAD), peaking in Indianapolis at the Lucas Oil Stadium, where seats went for $3,071 ($4,242 CAD) on average.
