TORONTO — The Toronto Blue Jays have placed pitcher Trey Yesavage on the 15-day injured list with left knee inflammation.
The 23-year-old right-hander left Toronto’s 7-2 road loss to the Houston Astros on Tuesday after throwing 16 strikes over two innings. His left knee appeared to buckle as he warmed up for the third inning, and he was checked by a trainer before exiting the game.
Manager John Schneider said after the loss that Yesavage was feeling a pinching sensation in his knee that kept him from balancing.
He came into the game 5-5 this season with a 3.65 earned-run average over 18 starts.
The Blue Jays also optioned pitcher Chad Dallas to Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday, and called up right-handers Lazaro Estrada and Chase Lee ahead of a rematch with the Astros in Houston.
Meanwhile, struggling Jays slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was left out of Wednesday’s starting lineup because of fatigue, not injury, Schneider said. Kazuma Okamoto was pencilled in at first.
