The Toronto Blue Jays placed starting pitcher Shane Bieber on the 15-day injured list with right teres major inflammation and recalled righty pitcher Chad Dallas in a corresponding move on Tuesday.
Bieber’s placement on the IL was made retroactive to Aug. 21.
The move comes at an unfortunate time for the veteran Bieber, who put together arguably his two best starts of the season in his past two tries in holding the New York Yankees to one run over six innings in a 3-1 victory on Aug. 14, followed by an outing in which he held the American League-leading Tampa Bay Rays to one run over seven innings in a 5-1 victory on Thursday.
On the season, Bieber has a 5-2 record with a 4.53 earned-run average over 11 starts.
Dallas returns for his fourth stint with the Blue Jays this year. He made his MLB debut in a three-inning appearance on June 4, and has an ERA of 8.22 over three games in his rookie season.
This injury to Bieber is just another added to a long list of injury woes the Blue Jays’ staff has had to endure this year. The starting pitchers currently on the injured list includes Trey Yesavage, Patrick Corbin, Jameson Taillon and Cody Ponce, to go along with Jose Berrios - who did not make a single appearance this season before electing to have season-ending elbow surgery.
The Blue Jays enter Tuesday’s series against the Kansas City Royals at 64-68, two games out of the final wild-card slot in the American League.
