Connor Hellebuyck is wanting out of Winnipeg.
The Jets’ netminder released a statement through his agent on X Thursday afternoon, confirming he had previously requested a trade out of Winnipeg earlier this offseason.
“Several months ago, I privately requested a trade. I have tried to handle the situation quietly and respectfully while giving the organization time to explore its options,” Hellebuyck said.
“With training camp approaching, I felt it was important to publicly confirm my request. My position has not changed, and I believe moving on is the best path forward for me and my family.”
The Jets drafted Hellebuyck in the fifth round, 130th overall, in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
He has gone on to play 11 seasons in Winnipeg, tallying 345 wins – 45 of which were shutouts – a 2.58 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage.
Hellebuyck has also been named the league’s top goalie three times, most recently winning the Vezina Trophy during the 2024-25 season. He has also won the William M. Jennings Trophy twice and was named the league’s MVP for the 2024-25 season, winning the Hart Memorial Trophy.
“I have never forgotten June 23, 2012. That’s the day Winnipeg took a chance on a goalie playing in Odessa, TX. I gave everything I had from that moment on to prove that the Jets made the right decision,” he said.
“I appreciate everything Winnipeg Jets fans have meant to me throughout my career and hope a resolution can be reached soon.”
Before the 2026 NHL Draft, Jets’ General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff spoke on the rumours, saying the organization would listen to any potential offer sent their way.
However, at the time, he noted none of the calls had led him to act on a trade.
In a statement Thursday afternoon, Cheveldayoff said Hellebuyck has been open about “his desire for a change.”
“He has been an important part of the Winnipeg Jets organization for many years, and we have tremendous respect for what he has accomplished here. While we continue to work through the situation in a thoughtful manner, there is no update at this time,” said Cheveldayoff.
