MONTREAL — Magdeleine Vallières Mill was transported to hospital as a precautionary measure but is in good spirits, Cycling Canada announced Saturday after her crash in the women’s elite road race at the UCI road world championships.
Vallières Mill, the reigning world champion from Sherbrooke, Que., was evaluated for injuries to her right side and undergoing routine X-rays and scans, Cycling Canada said.
The crash involved several riders, covering almost the entire width of that part of the route.
The Netherlands’ Demi Vollering instead won the race in four hours 45 minutes nine seconds.
Poland’s Kasia Niewiadoma-Phinney (4:45:09) placed second, with Italy’s Elisa Longo Borghini (4:45:13) finishing third.
Sarah Van Dam finished as the top Canadian in 4:53:43 to place 17th.
