A pro soccer team in Barrie will take the pitch in 2028, and while the fine details have yet to be sorted, you can already purchase season tickets for the club.
In July, it was announced Toronto FC II would move to Barrie for the 2028 MLS NEXT Pro Season. Along with it, a brand new stadium in downtown Barrie.
CEO and President of Barrie MLS NEXT Pro and Barrie Stadium Group Peter Raco the said priority season ticket deposit program launched at 10 a.m. Tuesday morning.
More than 1,200 families have expressed interest in the team.
“We’re really excited about the interest level from the community, not only from a season ticket holder perspective but also from the business community and the Downtown BIA,” said Raco.
Thousands of people came downtown Barrie this July for the announcement, with the excitement trickling over into the fall.
“For us this is bigger than soccer; we’re building a community here in the downtown core of Barrie where soccer is going to be the heartbeat of this stadium,” said Raco.
Ground has not officially been broken on the build, but site checks continue around the area of Bradford Street, and work is being done behind the scenes.
“We’re going through site plan approval right now with the city, and we hope to have that wrapped up shortly,” said Raco. “Do some initial earthworks shortly, and then start breaking ground in the spring 2027.”
The stadium is projected to hold more than 3500 seats and will include executive suites and a rooftop terrace.
“The stadium is going to offer so much more to the community in terms of professional sports, community events, community sports, concerts, arts, and festivals,” said Raco.
