The Ottawa Redblacks have named two-time Grey Cup champion Mike Morreale as the club’s new president.
The CFL team confirmed the appointment on Tuesday.
Morreale played 12 seasons in the CFL with the Toronto Argonauts and Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He won Grey Cups with each team in 1996 and 1999. He was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Canadian in 1998 and the Grey Cup Most Valuable Canadian in 1999.
He went on to become president of the Canadian Football League Players’ Association and later co-founded the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL), becoming the league’s inaugural commissioner.
“This is about more than building a team that can win. It’s about building an organization that can compete for championships and give people in Ottawa a reason to feel connected to and proud of the Redblacks,” a social media post said.
Morreale said he’s excited to get started.
“It is a return to the game and the league that began my journey and I couldn’t be more excited,” he said on X. “R-Nation, let’s go. We got some work to do and it starts now.”
Former Redblacks president Adrian Sciarra stepped down in August amid a lengthy losing streak for the team that extended into the previous season.
The team went winless from Sept. 5, 2025, until last Friday, when they defeated the Toronto Argonauts 40-39 in their final home game of the season at TD Place Stadium.
The Redblacks play their final game of the season in Hamilton on Saturday.
