The Montreal Canadiens will have a different look on the ice 10 times this season.

The team, along with the NHL and sports apparel company Fanatics, unveiled the club’s “Hometown Remix” uniform on Monday.

It’s a special-edition jersey that is part of a league-wide program in which all 32 teams will have their own version. The league and Fanatics say the design was two years in the making.

The Canadiens will debut the sweater Tuesday night when they host the Winnipeg Jets at the Bell Centre. Local fans can catch the team wearing the jerseys at eight of the 10 games on home ice. The other two are on the road, in Toronto on Nov. 7 and Boston on Nov. 12.

The full schedule:

  • Nov. 3 vs. Winnipeg Jets
  • Nov. 7 at Toronto Maple Leafs
  • Nov. 12 at Boston Bruins
  • Nov. 14 vs. Colorado Avalanche
  • Nov. 23 vs. Los Angeles Kings
  • Dec. 8 vs. Vegas Golden Knights
  • Dec. 27 vs. Dallas Stars
  • Jan. 6 vs. Boston Bruins
  • Jan. 23 vs. Calgary Flames
  • March 28 vs. Detroit Red Wings

In a news release, the Montreal Canadiens said the jersey draws on the city’s history and cultural diversity.

Each sleeve carries a floral emblem: the white pine, fleur-de-lys, rose, thistle and clover.

The crest has etched details meant to evoke the city’s stonework and historic streets, while the side panels have a gradient inspired by Mount Royal.

Four fleurs-de-lys frame the city’s name on the hem, and the numbers are styled after the iconography of Old Montreal.

The jersey is “a bold departure from our traditional designs,” said France Margaret Bélanger, president of sports and entertainment at Groupe CH, adding the team hopes fans appreciate the elements of the city in the design.

The jerseys, in both on-ice Authentic Pro and Premium versions, went on sale Monday, along with headwear and men’s and women’s fan apparel, including hoodies, T-shirts, fleece and outerwear.
