The world’s top women’s curling teams are headed for Truro, N.S., to compete in 2028.
The town will play host to the BKT World Women’s Curling Championship, which will take place from March 17 to 26 at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre.
“We are delighted to take one of our biggest events to Truro, Nova Scotia, for the first time,” said Eeva Röthlisberger, head of competitions for World Curling, in a news release.
“We are aware of their track record of hosting major events, and we are confident that their experience will help us deliver an exceptional experience for our athletes and the curling community.”
According to Curling Canada, some of the international curling teams competing will be familiar with the Rath Eastlink Community Centre. The venue has hosted Grand Slam of Curling events twice, in 2015 and 2018.
“As Mayor of Truro, I am excited and proud to welcome the BKT World Women’s Curling Championship in March 2028 to the Rath Eastlink Centre,” said Truro Mayor Cathy Hinton. “This is the first time a world championship curling event will be held in Truro. We welcome the 18 teams, their families and curling enthusiasts from near and far to see all our community has to offer. This will be an exciting time.”
Nova Scotia most recently hosted the world women’s championship in 2024 at Sydney, N.S.
“Nova Scotia continues to distinguish itself as a top destination for major curling events in our country,” said Mandy Mulford, Nova Scotia Curling’s executive director. “Next year’s championship will build on that tradition, and we’re eager to welcome teams from around the globe to experience Truro’s warmth, hospitality and passion for curling.”
Curling Canada says ticket and volunteer information will be released at a later date.
