The incident happened at around 11 a.m. in a driveway outside Monsignor Paul Dwyer Catholic High School at Rossland and Stevenson roads, Durham Regional Police said.

In a news release, police said a passenger in a blue van appears to have stabbed the victim as the vehicle pulled up alongside him.

The victim, who police believe was targeted, sustained a knife wound to his side and made his way into the school following the attack

The student was then transported to hospital by ambulance. He was conscious and breathing following the incident, though the extent of his injuries was not immediately known.

Police are continuing to investigate and are asking anyone with information to contact investigators at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1832 or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

The hold and secure was lifted around noon.
