Toronto police are searching for a suspect after a woman was struck with a piece of wood on board a TTC bus in Etobicoke Wednesday morning.

It happened near Islington Avenue and The Queensway shortly before 5:30 a.m.

Police said a TTC bus was stopped at the intersection when a man approached a woman on the bus.

He allegedly assaulted her with a piece of wood before fleeing the area

Police said the female victim was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

On Wednesday afternoon, police released a photo of the suspect, who is described as between 30 and 40 years old, five-foot-five tall, approximately 150 pounds with a thin build, a black beard and black dreadlocks.

Police said he was last seen wearing a black jacket with white and orange on the sides, beige pants, black running shoes and a black toque.

In a statement, the TTC said it is saddened and appalled by the attack.

“Our thoughts are with the victim at this time for a full and speedy recovery. As always, we will assist police in the course of their investigation,” the transit agency said.

“While criminal incidents on the TTC are declining, we do not and must not take that for granted.”
