The Toronto District School Board says it has now reached a tentative local agreement with the union that represents public elementary school teachers in the province.

The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO), which represents 11,000 teachers in the TDSB, is expected to hold a ratification vote in the new year.

"Reaching a local agreement with our largest union... is an important milestone in the current round of negotiations. We continue to work with all employee groups to reach and ratify local agreements as soon as possible,' Christopher Usih, associate director of the TDSB, said in a written statement released Thursday afternoon.

A tentative local deal has not yet been reached with the union that represents public high school teachers in the province (Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation), elementary occasional teachers (ETFO) or support staff represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE).

Occasional teachers represented by the OSSTF reached a tentative local agreement earlier this month and a ratification vote is expected with that group on Friday.
