A 17-year-old student has been taken to a trauma centre with serious injuries after being stabbed outside a high school in Mississauga.

It happened at Lincoln Alexander Secondary School, in the area of Goreway and Morning Star drives, at around 12:30 p.m.

According to Peel Regional Police, the teen was stabbed outside the school and then went inside to seek help. That’s when someone at the school called 911 to report the stabbing.

Police and Peel Regional Paramedic Services rushed to the scene and found the injured teen. He was rushed to a trauma centre in Toronto in serious condition. Police have since described his injuries as non-life-threatening.

Lincoln Alexander Secondary School was placed in lockdown immediately after the stabbing. The order was then changed to a hold and secure, meaning all students were brought inside and no one was allowed in or out of the building. The hold and secure was lifted at around 2 p.m.

Three other area schools – Holy Cross Secondary School, Corliss Public School and Ridgewood Public School – were also placed in a hold and secure as a result of the stabbing. Those orders were lifted at around 2:30 p.m.

Police are still looking for a suspect and have said that no one is in custody at the moment.

“At this point in the investigation we don’t have any information on any possible culprits,” Constable Mark Fischer told reporters at the scene.

He said police are speaking with witnesses and will be reviewing surveillance camera footage to try and determine what happened and to identify possible suspects.

“There are cameras in the area and that’s where our investigation is now leaning toward,” Fischer said.
