Buying tickets for the Toronto Islands ferry in advance just got a little easier.

The city has announced that it has partnered with Ritual to allow users of the popular food-ordering app to purchase ferry tickets using their phone and then display the ticket for inspection, also using their phone.

The move streamlines the process for purchasing ferry tickets in advance. Previously those wanting to buy tickets had to do so through the city’s website. The tickets then had to be printed, rather than displayed on a phone.

“We want to increase the number of people who buy tickets online because it will help us to manage the lineups better and improve the flow of people onto the ferry,” Mayor John Tory said in announcing the partnership on Friday. “This is a small thing and small step but it is a thing that uses the ingenuity and success of a Toronto-based company to help people better get to the island.”

According to Tory, Ritual will be promoting the availability of Toronto Islands ferry tickets on its app throughout the month of August.

The new ticketing option will be available to island-goers as of Saturday.
