TORONTO -- Police in Toronto say they've become unwittingly connected with the Canada Revenue Agency scam.

The so-called "CRA Scam" involves victims being contacted by phone or email by people claiming to be Canada Revenue Agency employees.

The victims are told they owe money to the CRA, payment is demanded and a threat of immediate arrest is made if they don't pay.

Police say phone numbers visible on call display when the scammers call are fake or "spoofed."

Investigators say one of the spoofed caller ID numbers that is reportedly being used by the scammers is the Toronto Police Service non-emergency number.
