Two Oakville residents are facing charges after they allegedly took turns driving a vehicle while intoxicated on Tuesday evening.

Ontario Provincial Police were contacted at around 6:55 p.m. on Tuesday after a witness watched a suspected impaired driver crash into a guardrail on Burlington Street near the ramp onto the Queen Elizabeth Way in Hamilton.

Following the crash, police say the driver and passenger exited the vehicle and switched spots before driving away.

Police were then able to locate and stop the vehicle along Northshore Boulevard in Burlington.

James Montagliani, 52, has been charged with impaired driving, refusal to supply breath sample and having liquor readily available.

Luis Canario, 54, has been charged with impaired driving over .08, driving while prohibited and having liquor readily available.

Police say they were able to charge both suspects with impaired driving based on witness information and the observations by responding officers.
