A woman is in hospital in stable condition and a second is in police custody following a stabbing in Toronto's west end Monday morning.

Toronto police spokesman Const. Tony Vella said the victim was stabbed by her roommate.

The stabbing occurred at an apartment block in the 300 block of Dixon Road, just east of Kipling Avenue, at about 6:50 a.m.

It is believed the victim, who is in her early 30s, was stabbed in the back.

Vella said a 34-year-old woman was arrested "in the area."

She is facing charges of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon, police said.
