A massive photo of U.S. President Donald Trump and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein was placed on the lawn outside Windsor Castle, where Trump is scheduled to stay Tuesday night as part of a state visit to the U.K.
The British activist group Everyone Hates Elon claimed responsibility for the stunt in a post on Instagram.
“Trump is coming to the UK to AVOID the EPSTEIN story,” the group posted alongside footage of the 400-square-metre banner being unveiled on Monday.
“Unfortunately the British public just crowdfunded the WORLD’S BIGGEST PHOTO of Donald with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.”
The photo shows the two together at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in 1997.
The Everyone Hates Elon group also published a video of someone sneaking a mug with the image into the Windsor Castle gift shop. As part of its campaign against Trump, the group posted the same photo at a U.K. bus stop and allegedly added an Epstein memorial to a bench at Trump’s golf course in Scotland.
“I’ve known Jeff for fifteen years. Terrific guy,” Trump reportedly told New York magazine in 2002. “He’s a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.”
A 2003 birthday book compiled by Epstein’s former girlfriend and accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell allegedly included a suggestive note from Trump, as well as messages from former U.S. president Bill Clinton, prominent lawyer Alan Dershowitz, and Lord Peter Mandelson, who was recently sacked as the U.K.’s ambassador to the U.S.
Trump has denied writing the birthday message and has sought to downplay his connections with the disgraced financier, claiming that their friendship ended with a falling out two decades ago.
Trump’s trip, which runs from Sept. 16 to 18, will be the U.S. president’s second state visit to the U.K. Trump will be hosted at Windsor Castle by King Charles III.
Prince Andrew, the king’s brother, stepped down from royal duties in 2019 amid controversy over his reported friendship with Epstein.
A crowdfunding campaign to plaster the image of Trump and Epstein across the U.K. has so far raised nearly £32,000 (C$60,000). It’s unclear if authorities removed the massive photo after it was unveiled on Monday. Everyone Hates Elon claims its social media post about the huge photo was created in collaboration with Trump critic and comedian Rosie O’Donnell, who moved to Ireland in early 2025 after Trump’s inauguration.
Formed in opposition to Elon Musk’s political activism, the Everyone Hates Elon group has also used guerilla marketing campaigns to take aim at billionaire Jeff Bezos.
Epstein reportedly died by suicide in a New York City jail in 2019 while awaiting trial for sex trafficking charges. Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year sentence in the U.S. for conspiring with Epstein to sexually abuse minors.
