Prince Louis is seen in a portrait shared by the Prince and Princess of Wales and captured by photographer Matt Porteous.

Prince Louis is eight, a birthday marked with the release of a new photo captured during a recent family vacation.

The portrait of the Prince and Princess of Wales’ youngest child was posted on social media Thursday with the message, “Happy birthday, Louis! 8 today!”

A grinning Louis is seen leaning against a railing with his arms crossed and hair gently tousled by the wind.

The BBC reported that the portrait posted of Louis was taken during a family trip to the English county of Cornwall.

Prince Louis’ birthday snap was captured by photographer Matt Porteous, according to a comment on the post from Prince William and Catherine’s account. Porteous has worked with the family before, including with Catherine in 2024.

The photographer is behind a family Christmas card from 2022 and other images of the young royals captured at various times in their lives, including at Prince Louis’ christening.

Other family milestones have been marked with photos captured by other photographers or even the Princess of Wales herself, including Princess Charlotte’s most recent birthday.

The Prince and Princess of Wales also shared a video of Louis Thursday, thanking the public for their birthday wishes.

Born on April 23, 2018, Louis is the couple’s youngest child. Prince George is their eldest, and will turn 13 in July. Princess Charlotte will turn 11 next weekend.
