More than two million bees set loose after semitruck carrying hundreds of beehives crashes

Two million bees buzzed a highway after a semitruck carrying hives crashed on Thursday.

A semitruck carrying hundreds of beehives crashed on a North Dakota interstate highway near Valley City, Fargo, N.D.-based Valley News Live reported.

The truck was merging onto the highway when a 15-year-old driver attempted to pass in the left lane, causing the truck to swerve to avoid collision, but the other driver made an abrupt move and the semi rolled, according to local reports.

The 55-year-old driver semitfruck driver had 600 to 800 beehives with more than two million bees from Florida on board.

The semi driver was able to escape, but was attacked by the bees, then ran to a nearby river to escape them. He was brought to hospital, according to local media.

A part of the road was closed for nearly eight hours while crews cleaned up beehives. The teen driver stayed on scene during the incident.

Local beekeepers were called to help cleanup and residents who were allergic to bees were asked to shelter in place, NewsDakota.com reported.
