A Missouri man is facing multiple charges after authorities say he led deputies on a high-speed chase, jumped off a bridge into a lake and assaulted three officers while being taken into custody.
Deputies tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped away, reaching about 120 km/h in a 70-km/h zone, NBC affiliate KYTV reported.
According to the Stone County Sheriff’s Office, 26-year-old Gavin Thor Lundgren of Kimberling City is charged with one count of third-degree assault, two counts of fourth-degree assault and one count of aggravated fleeing a stop.
The pursuit ended at the Kimberling City Bridge, where Lundgren got out of the vehicle and dove into Table Rock Lake. The vehicle continued rolling forward while still in drive until authorities stopped it. Firefighters later helped search the area by boat before a deputy located him.
Authorities allege Lundgren injured three deputies while officers attempted to arrest him, including headbutting two of them.
He was taken to the Stone County Jail. Online booking records list charges including resisting arrest by fleeing, careless driving, assault and resisting or interfering with an arrest for a felony.
Jail records note the charges may change following court appearances.
