A Florida man has been arrested for allegedly sucker-punching a 61-year-old woman while she walked down a street in Miami.
The suspect ran away and left the woman, who was running errands bleeding on the ground, according to a report from WSVN-TV 7News last Thursday. The news outlet shared surveillance footage of the apparently random attack in Miami’s Little Havana neighbourhood.
“She is bleeding profusely from literally the skin of her face, by her nose, and her nose, she’s dripping blood,” Miami sports bar owner Mónica Zapata said in an interview with WSVN-TV 7News, noting she had later reviewed her security video showing the violent encounter.
Zapata helped the woman sit on a chair and called 911, staying with the victim until the paramedics arrived, 7News reported.
Tavaris Greene, 40, was charged with felony battery and appeared in bond court on Friday, the Miami news outlet reported.
Greene told detectives that he was “having a bad day because he punched someone,” according to his arrest report.
Zapata told WSVN-TV 7News she asked fellow business owners if their cameras were working so they could help authorities.
“There’s children, families that walk up and down the street,” she said. “I, myself, I’m constantly walking down this area … you don’t know what to expect.”
The woman suffered a “fractured nose, lacerations to her left cheek, and will need sutures,” according to Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Mindy S. Glazer. The victim’s current condition is not known.
