An orphaned kitten trapped in heavy machinery was rescued last month, capturing the hearts of thousands of people online.
Chase Guello, a construction operating supervisor in Ohio, heard cries coming from a Komatsu excavator while he was at a job site in July. He soon spotted an orange kitten with big blue eyes in the engine bay. Then after he unscrewed the skid plate and kicked it open, the kitten fell out.
His company, RiverReach Construction, posted a video of the rescue and subsequent updates on social media after receiving a multitude of requests from the kitten’s online admirers.
“Once we got her out, we took her into our office trailer for the rest of the day,” Guello told Fox 8 Cleveland WJW earlier this week.
The workers named her Sue – a homage to the Komatsu excavator brand. Though workers never found her mother, Sue was nursed for two weeks and adopted by the company’s shop mechanic.
The construction crew is making her its “shop cat,” supervised by the mechanic who will bring her to work.
The company, based in Barberton, Ohio, gained new fans on social media, thanks to its furry new worker. One update showed a package from Komatsu containing Sue’s own hard hat – with two holes for her little ears – and a reflective vest.
“Do I need River Construction? No. Am I following this page? Yes … forever,” one user wrote on the company’s Instagram page.
