An off-duty police officer has died following a motorcycle crash near Orangeville on Saturday afternoon, Peel police have confirmed.

Peel Regional Police Const. Thomas Ruttan confirmed that Const. Ewa Domagalska, of Brampton, died overnight in hospital.

Domagalska, 30, was off-duty when she collided with a SUV on Airport Road near Highway 9 at around 4:45 p.m.

She was airlifted to St. Michael's Hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the SUV was not injured in the accident.

Outside Peel Regional Police headquarters on Monday morning, Ruttan said the loss will have a lasting impact on all that knew Domagalska.

"I know that the days and weeks to come are going to be very difficult," he said. "It's going to be an extremely difficult time for everyone that worked with Ewa or who knew Ewa."

In an email sent to CP24 Monday morning, Peel Regional Police Association President Wayne Omardeen said Domagalska would be deeply missed.

"She wasn't just a great officer, but a fantastic person as well," he said.

False reports

On Sunday, Omardeen sent out a tweet saying that Domagalska had succumbed to her injuries, but he later retracted it, telling CP24 that the tweet was sent out in "haste" and was based on "improper information."
