SAUBLE BEACH, Ont. - An Ontario beach will stand in for Juno Beach in Normandy, France for a documentary about Canadian soldiers on D-Day.

History Television Canada will invade Sauble beach on Lake Huron later this month to shoot a 90-minute docu-drama called "Storming Juno."

A small strip of sand near Sauble Beach will stand in as Juno Beach, where Canadian soldiers came ashore on June 6, 1944.

Line producer Sarah James says they scoured beaches across Ontario looking for just the right conditions -- a long, wide strip of sand with plenty of dunes and water that looked like the ocean.

She says the Lake Huron shoreline proved to be perfect and actually looks very similar to the English Channel.

James says they have no plans to take over the public portion of Sauble Beach but have been granted permission to shoot on a small strip owned by the Saugeen First Nation.

The company has also put out an all-call for local men to be extras in the movie to be shot June 21-25 and air Nov. 11.
