It look like Torontonians will have to brace for more transit delays, as a new report suggests a highly-anticipated train will be arriving late.

On Tuesday, Toronto Transit Commission spokesperson Brad Ross confirmed that the Spadina subway extension, originally slated for completion by December 2015, will in fact not be ready until fall 2016.

The delay in the 8.6 kilometre extension, which will eventually connect Downsview Station with the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre and include six new stations, is being blamed in part on the death of a crane operator at a work site last fall and the slow start of one of the sub-contractors hired for the job, Ross said.

Kyle Knox, 24, of Stoufville, was killed and five others were injured after equipment collapsed at the job site at York University on Oct. 11, 2011.

Following his death, work at the site was halted until February 2012.

The extra costs associated with the delay are currently unknown, Ross said.
