Toronto police have arrested a man they believe was involved in a shooting this morning near Morningside and Lawrence Avenues.

It happened at around 8 a.m. inside a home on Woodgarden Crescent.

According to police, a 24-year-old woman was shot in the knee and a two-year-old dog named Duchess was shot in the neck.

The woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was rushed to hospital where she remains.

The dog was taken to Morningside Pet Hospital and then transferred to another animal hospital to undergo surgery.

According to a source at the hospital, the dog is expected to be OK.

Seven schools were placed under a hold-and-secure order as police scoured the area looking for the suspect, but the orders were lifted at around 9:45 a.m.

The suspect and victim are familiar with each other, according to investigators.

"We are aware of the identity of our suspect and the police are actively looking for him, but I don’t believe that there are any public safety issues at this time," Det. Jennie Ryan told reporters at the scene.
