A 35-year-old Toronto man is dead following what police believe was a targeted shooting in Little Italy Monday afternoon.

Witnesses at the scene told CP24 that a tall man dressed in construction clothing walked into the Sicilian Sidewalk Cafe on College Street at Montrose Avenue and shot the victim in the head from close range at around 3:30 p.m.

Reports from the scene say that as many as five shots were fired.

According to police, a second male victim was transported to hospital.

The extent of the man's injuries is currently unknown.

At around 7 p.m., Toronto police released a description of the suspect.

Police are looking for a white male, approximately six feet tall, with dirty blond, shoulder-length hair. He was last seen wearing a safety vest with a green ‘x' on it, white hard hat and a filter mask.

Neighbours in the area are asked to check their property for anything suspicious and to call police if they come across anything.

Coun. Mike Layton, who was at city hall at the time of the incident, said he was shocked to hear of the shooting.

"It's right around the corner from where I live, so it's particularly close to home," Layton told CP24. "I'm scared, I'm frightened. This isn't the feeling I'm used to having when I walk down College Street."

Ryan Bird, with the Toronto District School Board, said hold-and-secure orders in place at Montrose Junior Public School and Delta Alternative Senior School were lifted shortly after 4:30 p.m.

College Street is currently closed between Grace and Crawford streets as police investigate.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police.
