Driving school owner charged with sexual assault

The owner of a Toronto driving school has been charged with sexually assaulting a student.

Police say the man, who has owned and operated Guide Driving School on Dundas Street West since 1971, met a student in his office before a scheduled driving lesson.

He then locked the door and sexually assaulted the victim, police allege.

Jose Silva, 61, of Mississauga, is charged with one count of sexual assault.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 9.

EMS vehicle involved in Markham crash

UPDATE: Two people have been transported to hospital after an Emergency Medical Services vehicle collided with a tractor trailer in Markham Thursday afternoon.

York police said the collision occurred at Highway 7 and McCowan Road around 2 p.m.

Police said that the injuries to the drivers of both vehicles are non-life-threatening.

No other passengers were in either vehicle.

Police are currently investigating the incident.

Cyclist transported to hospital

UPDATE: A 58-year-old man has been transported to hospital after he struck a pole and fell while riding his bicycle in downtown Toronto Wednesday morning.

Police say the man suffered serious injuries when he lost control of his bicycle in the intersection of Bathurst and Carr streets.

A security guard working at a nearby condominium witnessed the accident and administered first aid.

The man has been rushed to Toronto Western Hospital without vital signs.

Police are currently on the scene investigating the incident.

Arsonist torches cars

Toronto police are looking for at least one arsonist after vehicles were torched in an industrial area early Wednesday morning.

Police said at least one person tried to set four vehicles on fire as they were parked behind a building on Midland Avenue, south of Sheppard Avenue, but only two became engulfed in flames.

The suspect or suspects fled before firefighters and police arrived.

No injuries were reported.

Arson has been confirmed as the cause, police said.
