Female struck by bus suffers serious facial injuries

A female pedestrian has been transported to hospital with serious facial injuries after she was struck by a bus Friday afternoon.

Police said the woman was struck near Blue Jays Way and Wellington Street West shortly after 3 p.m.

There is no word on any charges.

Emergency crews battle Markham fire

Emergency crews are battling a blaze at a Markham strip mall.

According to York Regional Police the fire is affecting the roof of New Centuries Plaza on Ferrier Street near Steeles and Warden Avenues. It began shortly after 12 p.m.

Both Ferrier Street and Acadia Avenue are closed as a result.

Man hospitalized after assault

A 45-year-old man is in hospital with serious injuries after he was assaulted near Bloor Street East and Mount Pleasant Road on Friday morning.

EMS officials said the man was transported to a trauma centre.

Police said the injured man was found on Huntley Street, just south of Bloor Street, with a "significant" head injury at about 7:20 a.m.

The man's condition wasn't immediately available.

No one has been arrested.

Car takes out bus shelter

A man escaped with minor injuries when his car plowed through a bus shelter on Birchmount Road near Steeles Avenue East early Friday morning.

York Regional Police said a car took out some trees and a fence before crashing into the bus shelter and flipping shortly after midnight.

The male driver was taken to Scarborough Hospital as a precaution, police said.
