Toronto police have decided to extend the deadline for their "Pixels for Pistols" program by one week after calling the initiative an overwhelming success.

The last day for people to bring in guns has been moved from November 23 to December 1.

The gun amnesty program was developed by the Toronto police, in participation with Henry's Cameras as part of the commitment to put an end to gun and gang violence by safely recovering and disposing of firearms.

However, police would like to remind people that the firearms must be picked up, not brought in.

Call police at (416) 808-2222 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. to arrange for pick-up.

As an incentive, anyone who surrenders operational firearms to police will receive a Henry's gift card for a Nikon digital camera plus photography lessons.

More than 900 firearms and 18,000 round of ammunition have been turned over to police.
