Peel Regional Police have charged a suspect in the stabbing death of a 23-year-old man in Mississauga on the weekend.

The victim, Jordan Mascarenhas, was fatally stabbed during an altercation involving several people in the parking lot of a strip plaza on Dundas Street East, near Hurontario Street, early Sunday morning.

Police said Mascarenhas was rushed to hospital, where he died of his injuries. He was Peel Region's first homicide victim of 2012.

Officers arrested a suspect Tuesday.

Police said 24-year-old Alexander Lesniak of Mississauga is charged with second-degree murder.

The investigation is ongoing, but there are no outstanding suspects and no further arrests are anticipated, police said in a news release.
