Police have recovered four British bulldog puppies and charged a 37-year-old man following a theft from an Ajax pet store earlier this week.

The puppies, valued at $2,000 each, were stolen during a break-in at The Puppy Store early Monday morning.

Two puppies were recovered and two people were arrested after the dogs were put up for sale on Kijiji, a classifieds website.

The other two dogs were recovered from an "associate" of a suspect in downtown Toronto on Tuesday night, Durham Regional Police said.

The dogs and their owner have been reunited.

James Colley, 37, of Ajax is charged with four criminal offences, including breaking and entering.

No one else will be charged, police said.
