A Queen’s Park peace officer died in a motor vehicle collision over the weekend.
Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Donna Skelly shared the news in a social media post, in which she identified the officer as Joshua Camacho.
The details about the collision have not been confirmed.
Skelly said Camacho had served at Queen’s Park for three years, and was known for his commitment and professionalism.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones. He will be deeply missed,” Skelly wrote.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford also commented on the news in a separate social media post.
“We are extremely grateful for the men and women who keep Queen’s Park safe every day, and my thoughts are with everyone at the Legislative Protective Service at this difficult time,” Ford wrote in a social media post.
Ontario’s Solicitor General Michael Kerzner shared that he was “heartbroken” by Camacho’s passing. The minister said the officer was a friendly face at Queen’s Park, adding that his loss will be felt by everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with Camacho.
Ontario NDP Leader Marit Stiles and the Ontario Liberal Party also extended their condolences to Camacho’s loved ones.
