TORONTO - The preliminary hearing for a man accused of killing a Toronto police sergeant with a stolen snow plow will begin Nov. 7.

Richard Kachkar appeared in court today via video.

He is charged with first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder in the death of Sgt. Ryan Russell.

Kachkar, formerly a resident of St. Catharines, was shot and arrested Jan. 12 after Russell was struck while trying to stop the plow during a wild police chase through snowy streets.

The preliminary hearing is expected to run until Dec. 2.
