TORONTO - There's more public pressure to hold an inquiry into how police handled last weekend's G20 protests in Toronto.

Hundreds of people skipped Canada Day celebrations in favour of attending protests in Toronto and Montreal.

In Toronto a crowd of between 700 and one-thousand took to the streets.

They called for an inquiry and demanded the resignation of Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair.

It was a largely peaceful protest, but police stopped the demonstrators from marching on police headquarters.

In Montreal roughly one-thousand protesters marched peacefully through the downtown core to condemn police tactics.

Many carried cans around their necks to collect money for the legal representation of those still in police custody in Toronto.

More than 200 Quebecers were among those detained or arrested.

In all police say a total of 900 people were detained during the weekend protests and the days leading up to the G-20 summit.
